Frequently Asked Questions
How much will an average fence cost me?
Great question! This is one of our most common inquiries. The answer depends on various factors, including height, square footage, location, and materials. Since every project is unique, there isn’t a universal formula for an "average-sized backyard." Instead of providing generic per-foot estimates, we offer personalized quotes to ensure every detail is considered.
What basic information do I need to consider before an estimate?
What are my options for fence materials?
Options for fencing materials for residential properties consist of:
- Pressure-treated wood (available in styles such as picket, estate, and privacy)
- Rustic split rail combined with wire mesh
- Timeless ornamental aluminum fencing
- Chain link fencing
- Innovative polyvinyl chloride (PVC) fences
Which is better cedar or pressure treated materials?
The primary distinctions between cedar and pressure-treated materials lie in their lifespan and visual appeal.
Cedar, typically western red, is a lightweight yet dense material known for its resistance to decay and pests, provided it remains above ground contact.
In contrast, pressure-treated pine is a heavier, dense material that undergoes a treatment process at the mill, where chemicals are infused into the lumber. The MicroPro Treated wood process holds certification from SCS as an Environmentally Preferable Product, ensuring it is eco-friendly while preventing decay and infestation throughout the lumber's lifespan. This results in enhanced durability and longevity for custom fences. We recommend using pressure-treated posts along with either Western Red Cedar pickets or Domestic Southern Yellow Pine pickets.
What kind of warranty do you offer on my fence?
The materials used in your fence installation are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Be sure to inquire about the specifics for the product you select!
Ornamental aluminum and PVC fences come with a lifetime limited warranty and require no maintenance.
How should I care for my gate and wood fence?
Every six to twelve months, apply a water repellent, such as Thompson’s Waterseal, to assist with the pressure treatment. It’s crucial to apply a water-repellent coat of paint or stain only after the wood of your fence has "cured" or dried naturally.
This practice will help minimize shrinkage and warping of the materials. Remember to repeat this process annually. Once you have applied a stain, paint, or water repellent, no further maintenance is necessary for the fence. With the right care and attention, you can look forward to enjoying your new fence for many years to come!
